If you or your loved one have ever had to deal with a traumatic experience, then you know first hand that dealing with a traumatic experience is a terrible thing, and getting past It can be really difficult and overwhelming.

Whether it’s the loss of a loved one or a horrible personal experience, it takes a toll on your emotions leaving you devastated, distressed, confused and sometimes depressed.

Most people who have gone through traumatic experiences have a hard time recovering from it and getting their lives back. No matter how bad your experience may have been, all hope is not lost, there are steps you can take to recover your emotional equilibrium and regain control of your life. Here are some tips on how you can get past a traumatic experience.

Talk To A Counselor

When dealing with a traumatic experience, depression, or anxiety, it’s always advisable to seek the help of a professional – it could be a counselor or a therapist. These mental health professionals are equipped with the skills and knowledge to help you find ways to get past your traumatic experiences and also teach you how to cope with it, if need be.

If you are wondering about how you can easily get in touch with a professional counselor or therapist, This isn’t so hard or complicated, there are tons of amazing websites online where you can request an appointment with a therapist.

One of my favorite websites and companies for counseling sessions is Ray of Hope Counseling Services. Ray of Hope Counseling Services is a group of counselors and psychotherapists that offers counseling sessions for individuals, families couples, and groups. They have specialists who are skilled in stress and anger management, therapy for abuse and violence, addiction therapy, and more, just to mention a few.

Their services are great because it is provided within a safe and confidential environment, so you have nothing to worry about. I particularly love and recommend Ray of Hope Counseling Services because they are committed to providing support and comfort for their clients. Booking sessions on their website is quite easy and straightforward because their website is very user-friendly.

Ray of Hope Counseling Services is the brainchild of Lynn Thompson Umstead. She is the founder and clinical director of Ray of Hope Counseling Services, Inc. She is a trained mental health professional, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. Lynn strives to meet clients where they are. She helps the client navigate through their past to help with a better understanding toward how to achieve goals for a happier healthier life.

Eat Healthy

It’s amazing how effective a healthy diet can be when it comes to helping you recover from a negative experience, this is because some foods improve the state of your mental health, some of these foods include fresh fruits, vegetables, protein-rich legumes, fatty fish and Omega 3 fatty acids. Eating right is a great way to improve your mental health. A healthy diet improves sanity and eradicates depression and anxiety.

Give Yourself Time

Every form of recovery takes time, and this is no different when it comes to recovering from traumatic experiences, except that it would definitely take a while before things get back to normal, except that recovery happens gradually and with this consciousness, it would be easier to get past it. Don’t stay in denial all through the time, accept what has happened and know that the feeling will not last forever. With time it will fade and you will be able to get on with your life.

Stay Active

One of the best ways to speed up recovery from a bad experience, whether it’s heartbreak or a physical assault, is to spend your time doing nice things, do things that you love. There are so many fun activities that make you happy, don’t hesitate to get involved in these activities, they sure would go a long way in helping you get your life back on track. Take a vacation, go for walks, spend time with friends and family, if you love sports you could get involved in some sporting activities like swimming, running etc. Whatever your preferences are, just ensure that you stay active daily, this will help you stay positive.

Surround Yourself With Friends And Family

Having the right people around you when dealing with the trauma of an event is very important. Try not to shut out your loved ones, share your feelings with them and allow them to help you heal. Spend time together with your family and friends, hang out together, listen to their jokes, have them listen to you, give them the opportunity to talk you through the bitter experience, this helps you cope with the negative experience and speed up recovery.

There’s nothing more exciting than experiencing a new part of the world for the first time. Exploring a new area gives you invaluable life experiences regarding diversity, culture, acceptance, and self-discovery. The further you go from your backyard, the more opportunity you have to learn about cultures and traditions unlike your own and gain perspective on how diverse the world really is. If you think you’re ready to travel abroad, there are a few things you should know to fully envelop yourself in this new city and get the full cultural experience. Go beyond being a typical “tourist” and keep these tips in mind for taking the most out of your experience abroad.

Try new cuisine

One of the best ways to experience a new culture is through their cuisine. Countries have such vastly different items on the menu because of the way their culture has grown throughout time. Because different climates allow for different crops to grow, each country will have specialties, many of which you’ve likely never tried before. Try Australia’s one-of-a-kind meat pies, a real macaron from France, or my favorite, Canadian poutine. If this delicious snack of fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds tickles your fancy the way it does mine, you may just find yourself looking for Montreal or Toronto homes for sale so you can experience this delicacy every day.

Plan ahead, but not too much

Before visiting a foreign city, take the time to research some basics. Know where you’re staying, where you can convert to local currency, and learn about some things to expect during your stay (pro tip: not all countries use the same type of outlet/plugs, so do yourself a favor and pick up a travel adapter or converter beforehand). Besides the basics, try not to stick to an itinerary. Part of the experience should be to explore, be spontaneous, and even get a little lost along the way. There’s always more to a city than the top five restaurants or top five monuments you might see online or on TV. Ask locals for recommendations and don’t be afraid to hop on public transit and see where you end up.

Track your journey

One of the most fun things for me when traveling to a new area is to keep track of where I have visited and my favorite experiences there. I like to buy a map and use colored pens to track my route around the city, or you use Google maps to track the ground you’ve covered. Take pictures, keep a journal, collect souvenirs, anything that helps you collect memories from your experiences. Posting pictures online to chronicle your adventure is always fun, but I always prefer an analog approach. I love journals that include pockets and places to keep things like ticket stubs, so I can remember and relive the amazing experiences I had. If you ever return to the area, you can recall favorite places to visit again.

If you’ve been injured in an accident that was due to the negligence on someone’s else’s part, it can be devastating financially, from the stacks of medical bills to lost wages. While every personal injury case is different, and there isn’t just one way it should be handled, one of the first things you’ll need to do is find an attorney in your area that has experience with your particular situation. For example, a medical malpractice attorney in Pittsburgh can help if unnecessary surgery was performed on you, there were surgical errors, a misdiagnosis or failure to diagnose a condition, among many other circumstances.

Car accidents are the most common types of personal injury cases in the U.S., and a careless driver is typically held financially responsible for injuries that occur due to their own recklessness.

No matter what type of accident you were involved in, these are generally the steps you need to take to receive compensation.

Discuss the Case with a Personal Injury Lawyer

Once you’ve chosen an attorney to handle your case, he or she will ask you questions such as the extent and severity of the injuries you’ve suffered, your medical expenses, and whether there was negligence on someone else’s part involved. Be sure that you keep all records related to the accident, such as medical records, law enforcement reports, insurance company details, and receipts so that they can be used as evidence.

Claim Investigation

The next step after going over all your legal options is for the claim to be thoroughly investigated. The lawyer will review all your relevant information and may also consult with experts to obtain professional opinions, as well as consider the possible defenses for the other party or parties involved to determine their liability.

Settlement Demand

If your attorney determines that your claim is valid, a demand for settlement will be issued to the defendant, outlining the claim, liability, and damages you’re seeking such as lost wages, medical expenses, injuries, pain and suffering, and future medical expenses. Those demands will then be reviewed by the other party’s lawyer who will accept it, reject it, or make a counteroffer. Negotiations typically follow afterward until a settlement is reached or personal injury lawsuit is filed. Most claims are negotiated and settled outside of court.

Mediation and Trial

If there is a trial, both sides will have to share their evidence with the opposing counsel so that each can evaluate the other side’s case. A mediation may be order prior to the trial to see if an acceptable agreement can be reached first. If the case still isn’t settled after that, a trial will be held with a judge, and sometimes a jury, hearing arguments from both sides, looking at the evidence and ultimately determining fault and awarding damages. Usually, it takes between four to seeks weeks to complete the settlement process and for you to receive financial compensation, but it varies on a case-by-case basis.

I am not sure that calling my daughter, Brianna, “mentally unstable” is the right thing to do, but I used the term for lack of better words. She is about to turn 14, and really is a beautiful and amazing young lady. She has a huge heart and is incredibly smart. For the past three years, we have been dealing with her mental health issues, and it has been a very tough journey.

How It All Started

My oldest son, Brandon, had a best friend, Nate, who was kicked out of his home. I took him in and dubbed him my “adopted son”. Brandon and Brianna have a seven-year age gap and a tumultuous relationship. However, Nate and Brianna were very close. He treated her more like a loved, little sister than her own brother did. He never showed annoyance with her and was very kind and patient. Nate had a rough life and was going down a bad path. We convinced him to reach out to his mother and get himself into military school since I was not able to do it myself because I did not have legal custody of him. Nate did well in military school and decided to join the Army.

When he left for the Army, Brianna changed, drastically. She began getting in trouble in school, frequently. It had gotten so bad that the school recommended that I take her to her pediatrician to see what they could recommend. I took her in for an emergency appointment with her pediatrician, who she admitted to that she sometimes felt like hurting herself. They referred us to a mental health facility.

Our Journey Together

When we went in for Brianna’s assessment at the mental health facility, I decided to see if I could get my own mental health in check. You see, I have been diagnosed with depression in the past but was going untreated due to having so many adverse affects from the medications I had tried. I also was having manic episodes and bouts of extreme anger while dealing with a teenage son, at the time, and my daughter and all of her mood swings and issues. I was afraid that I was going to physically hurt one of them and recognized that I needed help as well. So, we took on this journey together. I was diagnosed with bi-polar 1 disorder and ADHD and started meds and therapy right away. Thankfully, they nailed the meds on the first try, for me.

Brianna was another story. Not only was she experiencing extreme mood swings, but she was also lying, stealing, fighting, and was just plain out of control. Her diagnosis has developed over the last couple of years. At first, she was diagnosed with separation anxiety, ADHD and ODD. Now she has been also diagnosed with bipolar 1, mood disorder, behavior disorder on top of the ADHD and ODD. She has been in therapy this whole time and also has paraprofessional services.

Getting Worse

Nothing seems to be helping. She has had her meds changed and adjusted several times, but her behavior is just getting worse. At the end of her last school year, she was one step away from getting expelled from school. This school year is not any better. She is already one step away from expulsion. She has been fighting, boys mostly, and cursing out her teachers on top of not doing any of her school work. While she shows none of these behaviors at home, she is just a whole other person at school. On top of that, she is boy crazy, and hypersexuality is a symptom of her bipolar. It is scary! I have decided to pull her out of school and homeschool her. The problem is that her grades are so bad from the first half of the year, that it is likely she will have to repeat the grade anyway. Where we live, anything below a 70% if failing. There are no D grades.

Making Changes

Her therapist brought up the idea of changing her entire therapy team, but since the facility is understaffed, and they do not have anyone available who is experienced enough to deal with everything Brianna has going on, they recommended a referral to a whole new facility. We are hoping to start up at the new facility in the next couple of weeks. I plan to ask them to start off with a clean slate as far as her diagnoses go. I do not believe that she is ADHD. She can sit and focus. Her issue is that she focuses on the wrong things. Plus, she has so many diagnoses that it seems impossible to treat her properly. I am hoping that they will be able to narrow things down a bit instead of just adding a new diagnosis every time her behavior or moods change.

Not A Freak

We are both feeling a little helpless and frustrated. She feels like a total freak and no amount of assurance that she is anything but a freak is helping her. It is as if she is two different people, a good Brianna and a bad Brianna. The good Brianna has no idea why the bad Brianna does the things she does, and good Brianna also does not know or understand how to control herself. She just wants to know what is wrong with her and how to fix it, and as a mom, it is incredibly hard to not have the answers for her. The only thing that I can do is reassure her that I am here for her and she is not alone in this journey. I have learned to pick my battles with her, making our relationship stronger instead of us fighting all of the time like we used to. I spend many nights crying myself to sleep and just pray that this new facility will be able to help us figure things out and get them under control.

If you have any helpful tips or a story of your own that you would like to share, please feel free to do so in the comments section!

In many ways, choosing to improve the environmental-friendliness of your home is also economical. Below you can find ways to keep you and your family healthier, both physically and mentally, while also saving money and natural resources.

Replace Your Lightbulbs With LED Bulbs

Switching out your CFL or incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs is one of the easiest switches you can make. It gets easier every year as newer bulbs light rooms more evenly, come in a variety of light types, and the price generally falls somewhat.

LED bulbs last at least 3x as long as CFLs. They also use roughly 1/3 less electricity, on average, and result in a lower electricity bill, per year and over the lifespan of the bulb. Compared to a CFL bulb, LEDs also light better and may make rooms and colors appear brighter, even at a similar output.

Weatherproof Your Home and Stop Leaks

You want your home to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Most homes achieve that by using some form of climate control like a heater or an air conditioner. By sealing leaks and weatherproofing your home, you help these systems run more efficiently.

You also improve the insulation of your home and help it retain or block heat in the appropriate seasons. For example:

~ Shades of any type can help block light, heat, and drafts once installed.
~ Weatherstripping should be replaced once it starts losing spring and bulk or seems to be “cracked.”

Maintain Wells, Drains, and Tanks

If you have a shallow well, drainage tank, or water collection site, you should make sure that it’s in good working order. Sealing up and cracks before they turn into a serious issue will help ensure that any investment you have made in these systems was well-made. If any debris has built up to be more than you can handle alone, hi vac services may be able to help.

Have Houseplants and Manage Them Well

Houseplants may improve indoor air quality and reduce stress. To maintain your houseplants, you’ll have to water them. Using the same water, you have rinsed vegetables in or leftover coffee that has been watered down can help your plants stay healthier by providing trace nutrients as well as reduce wastewater accumulation.

Make the Most of Automation and Digital Options

A Programmable Thermostat can help reduce costs by maintaining just the temperature you want at a given time of day. Dishwashers and laundry machines can often be programmed to run during the night or at other “off hours” or non-peak times, reducing the strain on your local power grid and lowering your power bill.

Allow Nature to Do Some of the Work for You

Natural light can help heat your home during the cold winter months. It can also provide a good source of illumination- no need to turn on the electric lights if your curtains and shades are open. Line or air drying your dishes and clothes is another power and water-saving option.

Tizzy Says…Save the trees. Save the Earth. We are the guardians of nature’s birth.

Signing Up

You can sign up for FocoBody360 here After signing up, each of you will get an email every day to remind you to check out the Precision Nutrition coaching website. While you are there you can check on your daily lesson as well as exercise and habit building reminders.

What is Precision Nutrition?

Each week, you will receive an additional lesson from them. The focus of this lesson is how to leverage your relationship as a couple and how to support each other while trying to reach your health goals and increase your chances of success.

Bonuses

On top of what we already talked about, each person also gets monthly two-on-two phone coaching sessions. Plus, they host four webinars each month to address any issues, questions, or concerns you may have.

An Even Bigger Bonus

This is one of the best bonuses you can get with a program like this. In order to monitor your progress, this program also sends you two Apple watches. The Apple Watches will allow you to track your heart rate, exercises, and caloric intake. It also helps your coach monitor your progress. And, if you already happen to have Apple watches, they will take $600 off the price of the program.

Gut Matters

As a bonus for my readers, you can check out their free e-book called Gut Matters. Get the book here. When you sign up for this e-book, you will also add yourself to their mailing list and get updates from their blog on a weekly basis.

My Thoughts

I was able to sample a couple of their videos that are available to members of their program. These are two-on-two videos with company founders. They are certified nutrition coaches and success trainers. Together they are very personal and informative. They will help you explore ways to improve your relationship while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The tips they offer are invaluable.

I also did a quick look through their blog and also found a ton of information on better ways to eat as well as learning what foods are good and not good for your overall health. I definitely think this program would work well for couples who are trying to learn how to be healthy in all ways, together. If you are interested in checking them out, start here.
